• DVR - Digital Video Recorder
• HDD - Hard Drive, Housed inside the DVR
• Baluns - Used in conjunction with cat 5 cable - Where CCTV is installed with Cat 5 Cables
• BNC - Bayonet-Neil-Concelman, Special Connector used in CCTV installations
• Ir - Infra Red, used in CCTV installations where light is poor
• Rg59 - Coax cable, normally used with a twin power cable attached.
• PSU - Every CCTV installation requires a Power Supply to power the CCTV cameras
• Video to vga Converter - Used where a dvr has a bnc video output and a Computer monitor will be used
• Switcher - A Switcher box outputs the video to a monitor, No recording takes place

Digitial Video Recorder or DVR

The DVR is the central or main "hub" of a CCTV installation. All CCTV cameras link to the DVR or in some cases a switcher box. There are 2 main types of DVR, a PC Based pci DVR or an embedded DVR. Like the name says a computer based DVR works of a computer operating system and an embedded DVR has its own OS. The embedded DVR looks very simlar to a video machine. There are simpler installations which can be used for home use or small offices where the video can be output to a tv monitor or alternateively a switcher

HDD - Hard Drive

The Hdd simply connects inside of the DVR. Hdd comes in various sizes, Customers needs and the amount of cameras are taken into consideration before a Hdd size is recommended

Balun

Special connector thats used when using cat5 cable on a cctv installation

BNC

Used on a cctv installation with a coax cable called RG59. Crimp type BNC connectors are best for cctv installations

CCTV Cameras

The "eye" of a cctv solution.There are various types of cameras

• Dome camera's
• Infra Red camera's
• Bullet Camera's
• Eclipse camera's etc

Switcher

Switchers come in quads or octos. A quad switcher can have 4 cameras connected and an octo 8 cameras. No recording takes place on the switcher. Its simply a live feed thats viewed in real time
